LOOK AT THIS |
Angry Helper! Just the other day a person came to me and he was really very upset. When he stopped at the robot a white man standing at the robot, begging for money approached him with a request to help him with money. The person asked him, why he would like to have money and the beggar said he would like to buy food for him and his family. The person turned around and went back to the Pick a Pay store. He bought some food for the beggar. He then went back and gave the food to the man. When he drove off, he looked back in his mirror, just in time to see how the man threw the food away and walk into the bushes. He was so upset about what happened, he don’t want to help any person again. Why you must contribute to a registered organisation! A few months ago I approached a man who was the chairman of a group of bikers, to help our organisation to raise funds to implement our projects. I did not hear from him for some time. One day he was telling people about their ordeal with a group of poor, homeless and jobless people. They as bikers collected some food and other needs as well as a stove and needs to start a soup kitchen. He was telling them how they delivered all the stuff. After two weeks they went back with more food and other donations. When they came to the place where the soup kitchen was, there was just a room full of dirt. They start to ask around and to their surprise they found out that all the stuff was sold by the people whom they left in charged. I did ask him why they just dump stuff to this people. Was it just to say they helped poor people or just to feel that they have done a good deed to pie their conscience? If they donated it to a registered organisation, could use it the correct way under supervision. Sell the food and clothes! We did years ago also think that you can help people by giving out food and clothes. At one stage we helped poor people three times a week with donations. One day I received a call from a person. He informed me that the people we help every week are selling the goods along the road to the township. Two of us did get into the car and drove off to the place. We did find them with all the stuff that we gave them, busy selling it. When I ask them why they do it, the man said to me they need money for food. I said to him, he is selling the food we gave them. They started with very long stories why they have to sell it. A man in a car stopped while we were there. He told us that they have been selling the stuff for some time and then went to the bottle store and buys some liquor. It is a few years back and I see them still begging in the streets. This is just to help you to understand our vision for the Kairos Foundation. It is not the answer to just give handouts. This people need to be trained and helped to help themselves. They need an organisation to help them gain back self confidence. The thing is, with handouts we only help them to be beggars. We need funds to buy a property and to develop a centre and a haven for people that are homeless and jobless. We are not only going to help them, we are going to help their families and children. Yes, we are not going to be able to help every person, because it is not anybody that wanted to be helped, but if we can help 20%, we are making a difference to 20% of poor people. We would like to do it the right way and with our years of experience, we know what to do. We will most definitely need help and if you would like to volunteer, please contact us. |

Welcome to Kairos Foundation |
KAIROS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOUNDATION (040-852NPO) Art 18 a Registered Public Benefit Organisation Not the answer It is terribly wrong to think that we can relief poverty just by handing out food parcels, clothing and blankets. I was thinking a lot about the reason why people just want to help with handouts. The only conclusion is that people don’t want to feel guilty. As long as I give a few loafs of bread or macaroni and sometimes old clothing, it is O k. This way of thinking is not going to solve growing poverty in our country. The only thing that we accomplish is, to help people to wait for somebody to help them. I have been involved in poverty relief for the past 14years and did find that hand outs are not the answer. We all know the Chinese saying, “Teach a person how to fish”. It is very nice, but what will a person do if you teach them how fish, but he does not have the proper means to do it. The only solution to poverty is to teach people how to help themselves through work creation and skills development projects. Projects like basic skills development and work creation have been very successful in many instances and at various places. The very important thing that we must keep in mind is, people are homeless and jobless and they do not have transport, therefore a facility has to cater for housing, feeding, health care, counseling, and childcare as well as work creation and skills development on the same premises. There is proven success of an all in one facility situated on the same premises. Help for people to gain back self respect must also be available on the premises. They will also be educated in family care and planning as well as how to manage their finances. When people are trained in different skills, the centre will assist them to find a job and as soon as they can support themselves, they will leave the centre. The problem! The problem we are confronted with is that we do not have a facility where we can help the people and therefore we can only help with food parcels and other handouts. We do find that all the same people are continuously coming back for more handouts. The problem we do find with continuous handouts are, that the people are starting to sell the items we handout. The other problem arising with handouts is that the food is non perishables and it is always the same items. and is also not balanced meals. The answer To find a suitable premises to use as facility to accommodate all the different projects in one centre. We can then give a roof with bathroom facilities and prepare balanced meals. Then we can start with skills and work creation projects. If you can feed people and give them a place to stay, they feel secure and the rest of the road to success will follow. We all know! We all know that we will not be able to help all the homeless and jobless people. A fact is also that not every jobless or homeless person wants to be helped, but the people who really wanted to be helped, can be helped with success. We also know that projects like this can only be successful with proper control and strict discipline. The rules at a facility like this must be very strictly at heard to. Part of the solution I would like to ask you to be part of the solution. It is an impossible task for me alone to handle and therefore need people to help me to make this vision a success. I need a person to take charge of the fund raising department to plan and help with fund raising events. Then I need a financial officer to help with the management of the foundations funds. We also need a person to take charge of the welfare department. You can also be part of the solution by donating funds on a monthly basis. You can help us as a registered organization to make the difference in the life of poor people. By donating to us you can be sure that the right people will be helped. DO YOU CARE ENOUGH ? ? ! TO HELP OUR CHILDREN IN DEVESTATING NEED ! ! ! !Yes, are you brave enough to help our children that are hungry, cold because the winter is here and they do not have blankets or a house, in poor health condition and not going to school, running around in the streets.? We will all ask, how did this happen. It is actualy not so difficult, the parents lost their jobs and can no longer support their families. The loss of income cause that no food can be purchased and and poor nutrition is a fact, the parents can no longer pay the rent of the house, no money for water and electricity, school fee's can no longer be paid and when the children are sick, there's just no money to take them to the doctor.WE CAN HELP, YES YOU ALSO ! ! ! ! ! BY MAKING A DONATION ON A MONTHLY BASIS INTO OUR BANK ACCOUNT YOU CAN HELP US TO START OUR WORK CREATION PROJECTS AND THE NUTRITIONAL FEEDING SOUP KITCHEN. HELP US BY DONATING R100.00 PER MONTH AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS ALSO TO DO IT. CHALLENGE THEM TO BETTER YOUR DONATION. I would like to thank the people who donated blankets and warm clothes, sadly we could only help a few, because we could not get enough. Thank you for all the people who donated funds to the organisation. |
